This book and A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN were favorites of mine when I taught 3rd grade. We lived in Brooklyn for a year and the places mentioned in the stories were places I walked through on my way to the subway, or we visited at various times. Both stories talk about how to deal with adversity and the need for good role models to learn how to overcome problems and become a contributing member of society. Many of the books in this list are favorites that I am going to reread!
I like the book because it is creative in the way they talk because it is important to read books
and sometimes it is very educational because I can learn a lot of stuff from the book and if you read the book I hope you say the same thing.
i loved this book because of its message and power twords a very brave little girl. i think that this book is very benaficial to children every where. as a sign of hope and never giving up.
