The Lotus Seed by Sherry Garland, pictures by Tatsuro Kiuchi

A young Vietnamese girl saves a lotus seed and carries it with her everywhere to remember a brave emperor and the homeland that she has to flee. As a grandmother in America the lotus grows and carries her memories and stories to her grandchildren.

Many families have items that hold memories from earlier generations. Does yours? Please share an item and its story in the comments.

My family is like Ba's because my Mom's family has a ring that is going to her and if something happens to a girl in my family the ring is going to me because my sister gets my father's great grandmother's ring.

I thought that The Lotus Seed was a very good book sorry to say but there is nothing special, that I know of,about that has been passed down in my family.Even though I wish that there was.I enjoyed the book that you read in class.

I thought the picks. were very good, and realistic. The book was really short, but its not the kind of book i would chose to read.

What my family passes down is porclein dolls. My great grandma passed them down since her grandma always gave her porclein dolls on her birthday and other holidays. I have about over 30 dolls.

I lovd the book and enjoyed the pictures and wish it was a longer book. I wish it had more detail. I have always wondered about my past and wonder if our family has a family heirloom. I loved the book, wasn't my favorite.

I don't have anything that has been passed down to me. If I do I don't know about it. But my mom did collect baseball cards and got my brother started and he got me started. I also didn't like the book because I don't really like books.

I thought it was a good book , and I really liked the pictures, but I don't really like to talk about wars. Because they make me feel scared that my brother will be drafted.

Almost every year, my family goes to a place called Bogus Rocks. It is in Pennsilvania. When we get there, we go on an hour hike to Bogus Rocks. At Bogus Rocks, we tell the story,or legend of Bogus Rocks. My grandfather tells it, or my uncle Ted once did. It is a very interesting story.

hi! The speacial thing my family pass down is different recipe cards. The reason they are speacial is my great great grandma made the cards and she passed them down to her child then her child passed them down to my mom who is going to pass them down to me when I get older. I really liked this book.

Something my family passed down was my 18kt. gold necklace. First my uncle passed it down to my aunt then my aunt passed it down to my other uncle than my other uncle passed it down to my dad and then finally it got passed down to me. I liked the book because it takes place in Vietnam and my uncle was in the Vietnam war. I also liked it because it talked about a seed that turned into a flower and I love looking at flowers especially pretty ones.

I think this book was not that intresting because it wasn't really my type.I would prefer a crime files book.I think I really would enjoy another type of book.
My family passes down a red blanket that I use today.

I did not enjoy this book very much. It was boring.
I would suggest this book for younger children. I
don't think this book is good for older kids. I
encourage you to keep reading.
